IMAX has released the IMAX version of the marvelous trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Shot by cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw, ASC on the Sony VENICE, the teaser is superb. Here is a comparison with the “normal” teaser released by Marvel Entertainment.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Black Panther. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is intended to be the sequel to Black Panther (2018) and the 30th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Ryan Coogler. Autumn Durald Arkapaw, ASC serves as cinematographer, having done so on Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series Loki, replacing the first film’s cinematographer Rachel Morrison, ASC. In the film, the rulers of the Kingdom of Wakanda fight to protect their nation following the death of King T’Challa. A few days ago the trailer was released by Marvel Entertainment. Audiences praised the teaser for its uniqueness and intensity. Watch it below:
A few days after the release of the “normal” trailer, IMAX released the IMAX version of the trailer. It’s quite intriguing to watch these two trailers side by side. In the IMAX version, you can notice the extended aspect ratio. However, these extended portions are tiny and only last a few seconds. 99% of the trailer is a conventional 2.39:1 ratio. Watch the IMAX trailer below. The comparison slide that shows the regular ratio and the IMAX ratio is above.
The cinematographer behind Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is Autumn Durald Arkapaw, ASC. In July 2022, Arkapaw was accepted into ASC. His credits include Palo Alto and Mainstream features, the documentary Beastie Boys Story, and the series Loki, which was nominated for “Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series.” BTW, Arkapaw’s husband is Australian Cinematographer Adam Arkapaw, ACS – who won the 2016 ASC Spotlight Award for his work in the feature film Macbeth (2015).
Arkapaw once said, “Being a mother has made me an even better leader, multi-tasker and creative person. It’s funny how the perception in our business is that being a mother makes it harder to fulfill the role; but in reality , motherhood edifies her and makes her more capable”
